When is visitation at the jail, and who can visit?: Visitation is 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Only family members and one non-family member designated ahead of time may visit.

1. Does the Sheriff's Department pick up stray dogs?: If the animal is vicious or you have no vehicle available to transport the animal, we will pick it up. Otherwise, we ask that you transport the stray to the Abilene Animal Hospital. There is no charge to you by the Animal Hospital. The Sheriff’s Department pays all fees.

2. Do I have to call in if I want to do a controlled burn?: Yes, you should call (785) 263-4041 or 888-800-0417 before you light the fire and after the fire is out.

3. How do I report a crime?: Call (785) 263-4041 or 888-800-0417. In an emergency, call 911

4. Has the Sheriff’s Department served certain papers/Are they trying to serve me papers?: Call (785) 263-4081 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
