The Dickinson County Road & Bridge Department is seeking Summer Laborers for the upcoming summer season. This role involves assisting with general labor, project support, and maintenance tasks under the supervision of experienced staff.
This position works four days a week Monday – Thursday 7:00 am – 5:30 pm
Hours may vary based on weather conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with all countywide and departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist with road maintenance and repair tasks such as patching and sealing.
- Support the set-up of work zones, including signage and traffic controls.
- Operate light equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Flagging, painting, washing equipment and such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the County roads and geography.
- Knowledge of how to secure loads.
- Thorough knowledge of safety operation of equipment.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials safety.
- Ability to focus on the task at hand and to pay attention to other traffic hazards.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Reporting any irregularities in the maintenance of right-of-way.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Valid Kansas Driver’s License.
- Ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Completion of Flagger Training provided by the Dickinson County.
